Transcript for Trustworthy Tobey[]

(Scene: The library.)

Narrator: Ah, the library. A place to read, a place to discover new things! (Miss Dewey hushes him.) And also a place to keep your voice down. Sorry, Miss Dewey.

Miss Dewey: (sighs happily) Thank you.

(Scoops walks in.)

Becky: Hey, Scoops!

Scoops: Becky! (He sees Becky and Bob. Becky is carrying a large pile of books to the front desk) Whoa! Lot of books you got there.

Becky: I'm returning all the books I checked out so I can take home the new ten-volume series "Princess Triana: Before the Crown".

Scoops: (notices Miss Dewey behind the front desk) Oh, top of the morning, Miss Dewey. (tips his hat and hands her a book) The library sure is neat and organized shipshape today.

Miss Dewey: Keeping the library shipshape is part of my job. (stamps Scoops's book) Due back on the 15th. (hands Scoops the book) Becky Botsford! Oh, it's so wonderful to see you! Read any good books lately?

Becky: Just ten of them, and I'm about to read ten more.

Miss Dewey: What a novel idea!

Becky: Novel! (puts her books on the front desk) My word, you're clever. (She and Miss Dewey laugh.)

Scoops: Wow, you're really popular around here.

Becky: I'm a regular.

Miss Dewey: (takes Becky's books) Every Saturday, Becky returns the ten books she borrowed and checks out ten more for the next week.

Becky: The limit is ten books at a time. I can't wait to read the new Princess Triana books. (admires a small bookcase containing the Princess Triana books)

Miss Dewey: Spoiler alert, they're marvelous. Okay, that's nine books, so give me the tenth book, and you're all set.

Becky: I just gave you all ten books.

Miss Dewey: (looks over the pile) Nope. You gave me nine.

Scoops: I'm counting nine as well. (Bob squeaks in agreement.)

Becky: Oh no! What book am I missing?

Miss Dewey: (consults a list) Hmmm... "Complicated Robotics for the Advanced Engineer" by Thomas Higginbotham, Ph.D.

Scoops: Sounds like a real page-turner.

Becky: It helped me fix the computer on my spaceship hideout. (Miss Dewey stares at her as Scoops gestures at her to stop talking.) I mean... uh, my imaginary spaceship hideout because only WordGirl has one of those.

Miss Dewey: (grabs the Princess Triana bookshelf) I'm sorry, Becky, but until you return that book, I can't let you check out the Princess Triana collection.

Becky: But I need to lose myself in the fantastical realm of Brambledore! (Miss Dewey hushes Becky, who gasps and starts to tear up.) Never... been... shushed before.

Miss Dewey: You left me no choice. I took an oath.

Scoops: Becky, think hard. When was the last time you saw the book?

Becky: It was... Thursday in the hallway at school. I had just finished reading it, and I said to myself...

(Becky flashes back to reading the book while walking in the school hallway.)

Becky: So informative.

(Becky bumps into Tobey and falls down. He glares at her, and she gasps. Tobey spots the book and picks it up.)

Tobey: "Complicated Robotics for the Advanced Engineer"?! I've wanted to read that for ages! (helps Becky up) You must let me borrow it, you must, you must, you must!

Becky: It's not really mine to lend.

Tobey: (walks away while holding the book) I shall return it, I promise. You have my word. McCallister's honor!

The flashback ends.)

Scoops: So Tobey borrowed it from you.

Becky: And he didn't give it back. Come on, Bob and Scoops. Let's go get that book! (turns to walk out of the library)

Scoops: Uh, actually, this is really your mission.

Becky: (stops) Oh. Yeah. Okay.

(Becky and Bob leave the library, leaving Scoops in silence.)

(Scene: A backyard shed outside the McCallister residence.)

Narrator: Later, in Tobey McCallister's backyard shed...

Tobey: (looks out of the shed) This is a robotics laboratory, not some common shed! (slams the door)

(Inside the laboratory, Tobey is working on his latest creation, which is covered by a blanket.)

Narrator: Hmm. Looks to me like a shed. A messy, cluttered shed.

Tobey: Laboratory! Now, if you'll pause your expositional prattle, I'm in the middle of a delicate operation. My Shipshape-a-Tron is nearly complete. Once I power it up, it will keep my bedroom shipshape, and I shall never have to clean it ever again! (Tobey pulls a lever. When the robot starts powering up, he gasps happily. The robot removes the blanket, revealing it to be shaped like a broom.) It's alive! (The robot starts cleaning the shed.) And organizing my--

(Becky storms into the laboratory, slamming the door on the Shipshape-a-Tron.)

Becky: Tobey McCallister, I'm very upset with you!

Tobey: My Shipshape-a-Tron! You've boggled its robotic brains! (The robot starts to throw things around.) No, you're supposed to clean things up, not make things messier! You've set me back weeks, Becky Botsford!

Becky: Well, you borrowed my book and didn't give it back! (Bob squeals a warning, and the two dodge a flying pipe.)

Tobey: "Complicated Robotics for the Advanced Engineer"? I gave it back to you yesterday.

Becky: You did?

Tobey: I stuck it in your backpack, along with a note thanking you for letting me borrow it and casually mentioning how I knew most of the lessons in it already.

Becky: I don't believe you. I bet you lost it in this messy shed.

Tobey: It's a laboratory, and you should believe me because I'm incredibly trustworthy!

Becky: You, trustworthy? You tell lies all the time!

Tobey: Perhaps! But in this case, I am telling the truth.

Becky: Well, I never got the book back, and until I return it to the library, I can't check out the new Princess Triana series.

Tobey: Yawn. (turns off the Shipshape-a-Tron) I returned the book to you, now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the library and check out a bunch of books on robot repair. (pushes his way past Becky and Bob to leave the laboratory) All because of you, I might add.

Becky: (follows Tobey) Well, I'm going with you to tell Miss Dewey that you lost my book!

Tobey: And I will tell her that I returned it to you!

Becky: Well, I guess we'll see who she thinks is more trustworthy!

Tobey: (darkly) Indeed we will.

(Scene: The library. Becky, Bob, and Tobey approach the front desk, Tobey carrying a large stack of books.)

Miss Dewey: Welcome back, Becky, did you find the missing book?

Becky: No, because I loaned it to Tobey, and he says he returned it to me, but I don't believe him.

(Tobey puts his stack of books on the front desk.)

Tobey: Is this the line for checking out books or complaining? Because I would like to check out this ten-book series on complicated robot repairs.

Becky: I don't think Tobey should be allowed to check out ten books when he lost one of mine.

Tobey: I did not lose it! I returned it to Becky's backpack yesterday!

Becky: So he says, but I haven't found it!

Miss Dewey: Tobey, in this case, it's hard not to believe Becky. After all, she's always been trustworthy.

Becky: You know, dependable, reliable, you can trust what I say. Trustworthy.

Tobey: Name one time when I've failed to be trustworthy.

Miss Dewey: Two weeks ago, your robot broke one of our windows and you blamed it on a squirrel.

Tobey: Those squirrels are up to no good. They stare at me sideways and show no fear!

Miss Dewey: Tobey.

Tobey: Okay, yes, I fibbed about who broke the window, but in this case I'm telling the truth!

Miss Dewey: I'm afraid I can't let you check out your robot books until you bring back Becky's book. (walks off-screen)

Tobey: What?! No! This is an outrage!

Miss Dewey: (returns with the Princess Triana bookshelf and hands it to Becky) Here you go, Becky. Book four is my favorite. Enjoy!

Becky: (gasps happily) Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! (starts to read) "A cold mist was falling on Brambledore." Oh, I bet it was cold.

Tobey: (leaving the library) Revenge will be mine!

Becky: Can't talk, reading.

(Scene: The Botsford residence. Becky is reading in her room, dressed as Princess Triana and surrounded by toys and clothes.)

Narrator: Later that day...

Becky: (reading) "And as Triana approached the amulet, it began to emit an unearthly glow."

(Mr. Botsford walks into the room.)

Mr. Botsford: Becky, have you seen my galoshes? (trips) Whoa!

Becky: No, I'm not hungry. (gasps) Chapter nine!

Mr. Botsford: Becky, this room is a serious safety hazard. I need you to take a break and clean this place up.

Becky: But dad, Triana is about to try on the Amulet of Mystery!

Mr. Botsford: (sternly) Becky.

Becky: Fine, I'll make this room shipshape.

Mr. Botsford: You don't need to change the room's shape, I just want everything tidy and back where it belongs.

Becky: Well, "shipshape" means "clean and organized". If I make my room shipshape, that means I'm tidying it up and putting things where they go.

Mr. Botsford: I see. Huh! I came in here looking for my galoshes, and I found a new word instead. I call that a win. (starts to walk out of the room, only to trip again) Whoa!

(Becky picks her book back up, only for Mr. Botsford to look up and glare at her. She sheepishly puts the book away, and he smiles.)

(Scene: The McCallister residence. Tobey is on the way to his laboratory.)

Narrator: Meanwhile, in Tobey's... "laboratory"...

Tobey: (opens the door, revealing the Shipshape-a-Tron) If I can't borrow the books that will help me turn you back into a room-cleaning robot, I will unleash your newfound mess-making abilities on the librarian who wronged me! Shipshape-a-Tron, prepare to attack! (activates the Shipshape-a-Tron, which starts to fly around making a mess) I'm thinking Shipshape-a-Tron isn't really a good name for you now that you only make messes. What about... Robo-Chaos? (The robot breaks down the walls of the laboratory, and Tobey smiles.) Robo-Chaos it is!

(Scene: Becky's room. The room is now clean, and Becky picks up the last toy from the floor.)

Becky: Now that my room is shipshape, I can get back to my book. (Bob squeaks and points at something under her bed.) Oh, I missed something. (She looks closer and realizes that it is her backpack, which contains the missing library book. She gasps.) "Complicated Robotics for the Advanced Engineer"! (Bob gives a worried squeak. Becky gasps.) Tobey did give the book back to me. It must have gotten pushed under my bed with all that clutter. (takes out a hand-drawn note depicting Tobey returning the book to Becky) He was trustworthy after all. What should I do, Bob? I feel bad! Tobey didn't do anything wrong, and because of me, he didn't get to check out the books he wanted. (Bob chatters a suggestion.) Yeah, I should go apologize to him and make things right, before he gets angry and vows to get his revenge.

Narrator: Hmm, might be a little late for that.

(Becky's superhearing picks upp Miss Dewey screaming. The scene cuts to Miss Dewey in the library, with Robo-Chaos throwing books around off-screen.)

Miss Dewey: Robot! Making a mess! And being very loud! (hushes Robo-Chaos before screaming again)

(The scene cuts back to Becky and Bob.)

Becky: Well, at least we know where to find him. Word up! (flies off with Captain Huggy Face)

(Scene: The library. Miss Dewey continues screaming as Robo-Chaos wreaks havoc. Tobey is sitting on one of the bookcase ladders.)

Tobey: Time for a little alphabetical disorder! Good luck finding what you're looking for now, book readers!

(WordGirl flies in and catches a bookcase Robo-Chaos throws. Tobey almost falls off the ladder, but catches himself.)

WordGirl: Hold it right there, Tobey!

Tobey: WordGirl! If you're looking for a book, I'm afraid it might take you a while!

WordGirl: (puts down the bookcase) I'm here to stop your robot's rampage.

(Robo-Chaos pushes another bookcase on top of WordGirl and Captain Huggy Face. It continues to throw books around the library. WordGirl lifts the bookcase and punches Robo-Chaos so hard it flies through the roof.)

WordGirl: Haha! (high-fives Captain Huggy Face)

Tobey: Well, now you've made him angry. (Robo-Chaos hovers over the hole in the ceiling and points at WordGirl and Captain Huggy Face. Tobey laughs.) Best of luck in your upcoming battle.

(Robo-Chaos dives at WordGirl, who dodges. She tries to charge at it, but it dodges in return, causing her to crash into a few bookcases.)

WordGirl: He's too quick!

(Robo-Chaos continues wrecking the library.)

Tobey: I put that book Becky loaned me, which I returned, to good use. Robo-Chaos is my fastest robot yet!

(WordGirl once again tries to charge at Robo-Chaos, with the same result as last time.)

WordGirl: Hi-yah!

Miss Dewey: Oh no! Row "MI" through "PL"! My second-favorite row!

WordGirl: (pants) This fight isn't going my way. We have to try something else. (Captain Huggy Face chatters and shrugs.)

(Robo-Chaos throws a book at Miss Dewey, who is hiding behind the front desk. Becky walks onto the scene, carrying a book.)

Miss Dewey: Ow! That was a hardcover!

Becky: Uh, hi, Miss Dewey. I found the missing book.

Miss Dewey: Becky, this isn't a good time! (ducks under the desk)

Becky: I know, but I wanted you to know that Tobey did return it to me, so he didn't do anything wrong at all, and in this instance, he was totally trustworthy.

Tobey: You... found the book?

Becky: Uh-huh. Along with your very nice note. Sorry I didn't believe you.

Tobey: Aha! I am vindicated! You see? I am trustworthy after all. Robo-Chaos, stand down!

(Tobey deactivates Robo-Chaos, which drops the bookcases it is holding and floats to the ground. Miss Dewey breathes a sigh of relief.)

Miss Dewey: I'm also sorry I didn't believe you, Tobey.

Tobey: Apology accepted. (slides down the ladder) Now, if you have a spare moment, I'd like to check out that ten-volume series on super-advanced robotic engineering.

Miss Dewey: I'll be happy to loan you those books.

Tobey: Splendid!

Miss Dewey: Once you put back each and every one of these books where they belong.

Tobey: That would take all day! Tell you what, if you give me the rest of the weekend, I can program my robot to do the work for me.

Miss Dewey: (laughs) You will be doing it without the help of a robot. The only helper you'll have is... Becky.

Becky: Me?! What did I do?!

Miss Dewey: You accused Tobey of losing your book without any evidence, so you can help him clean up. Now get to it, you two. And please be quiet, this is a library. (walks off)

Narrator: And so, Becky and Tobey start to make the library shipshape again, which will take them exactly seven hours and 32 minutes. And you can believe everything I say because I'm your trustworthy narrator. Tune in next time for another exciting episode of... (Miss Dewey hushes him, and he whispers.) WordGirl.
