Peter Graves was an American film and television actor.
He was the elder brother of late actor James Arness.
His best known roles today are that of Jim Phelps in the Mission Impossible television series that ran from 1967 to 1973, and its revival from 1988 to 1990, and as airplane pilot Captain Clarence Oveur in the 1980 comedy film Airplane!, as well as its 1982 sequel.
In 2007, he guest starred in WordGirl as stubborn sandwich hater Mr. Callihan in the episode "Chuck the Nice Pencil Selling Guy". He also guest starred in American Dad as Mr. Pibb. They are the only roles in animation he ever took on.
Graves is the first out of three people of the WordGirl cast to be a Christian, the others being regular Daran Norris, and guest star "Weird Al" Yankovic.
He is also the first member of the cast to have passed on. While returning from brunch, he collapsed and died of a heart attack on March 14, 2010, in Los Angeles, California, four days before his birthday. His last role was as the narrator in the video game Darkstar: The Interactive Movie.
