Guess Who's Coming to Thanksgiving Dinner is episode 9a of Season 5 of WordGirl.

Summary[]

After an unfortunate turn of events at the grocery store, Tobey and his mother become the guests of honor at the Botsford's Thanksgiving dinner. Becky is less than thrilled to be sharing a table with her one of her secret nemeses, and Tobey would rather be spending Thanksgiving with WordGirl (little does he know he is!) When Tobey unleashes his Pilgrim-themed robots on the city, can Becky find a way to defeat him without being missed when Mrs. Botsford carves the turkey?

Plot[]

It is Thanksgiving in Fair City and everyone, including the city villains are celebrating. Tim and Becky Botsford are at the store getting everything they need to make their Thanksgiving dinner for that night. One of which is a special dish by Sally Botsford which needs 22 bags of frozen peas. Next they pick up the turkey from the deli, Tim and Becky both discuss the traditions they have over the years, including the wish bone wish off, Becky hopes that she wins since she has not for the past 3 years. Also at the store is Tobey and his mother who are preparing for their dinner. The deli worker informs her that the last turkey was sold, they never got their pre holiday shipment of turkeys, which Tobey was responsible for but Mrs. McCallister doesn't know. As it turns out Tobey is planning to have his own Thanksgiving dinner; he would use his Thanksgiving robots to lure WordGirl out and then they would spend Thanksgiving together. Tim notices this and invites the McCallister to spend Thanksgiving with the Botsford family. Despite Becky and Tobey being against the idea, Mrs. McCallister gladly accepts the offer.

That night at dinner both families enjoy the meal together. Outside Tobey's robots are waiting for him, he assures them he'll be there soon. He then pulls out his remote which T.J asks if that is for his robots. To avoid getting in trouble Tobey claims it's a radio which Becky asks to hear. He turns the dial and makes up a Thanksgiving song which everyone seems to buy, his mother asks that he put it away which he obliges. Before the turkey is ready Tim serves the next corse of the meal, Tobey tries to excuse himself to take care of robot business, but his mother tells him not to leave the table until dinner is over. Tim tells Sally it's time for the special she was preparing. Her peas de resistance, which is made out of peas. Seeing an opportunity to leave, Tobey tells his mother that the Botsfords could use a hand in the kitchen, saying that if he reached his growth spurt by now he would have helped. His mother gladly agrees to help instead. He immediately heads upstairs to take care of some business. Becky makes it clear that if it's robot business WordGirl won't be coming on the account that it's Thanksgiving and she'll be with her family. Tobey however is still determined that she will come, regardless. The parents come back in with her special peas de resistance which is in the shape of Pierre. Mrs. McCallister explains how Tobey doesn't normally try new foods when she notices Tobey is gone and searches for him. Tobey meanwhile is waiting in Becky's room for his robots. Trying to think of a way to sneak off, Bob comes up with an idea. Becky announces that she has a Thanksgiving surprise she wants to present. When the family asks what it is, Becky says she's going upstairs to get it. She knocks on her bedroom but Tobey won't open it, so Becky knocks down the door in time to see Tobey being taken by his robots.

Turning into WordGirl, she follows him to a part of the forest, the plan goes into acton with WordGirl and Huggy fighting the robots while Tobey sets up his (or their) dinner. Eventually a robot grabs WordGirl and Huggy and she asks if they can stop fighting for a second, and while hesitant at first Tobey allows it. WordGirl explains that Thanksgiving is when families come together, enjoy a great meal and share what they are grateful for. Tobey claims he may not be grateful for anything but WordGirl is certain that there is something he is grateful. Tobey admits that there may be something she is grateful for: Robots (WordGirl) he also admits he actually enjoyed spending the evening at the Botsford house. WordGirl is happy to hear that, and Tobey asks if he can go now or if this will be another victory for WordGirl. In the spirit of Thanksgiving she says it will be a tie which he is thrilled to hear.

They both head back to the house, Becky and Bob arrive back at the table. Tobey also comes back and his mother is thrilled to see him. Tim announces that it's time for turkey, which Tobey comments looks good. His mother asks him to finish and he thanks them for inviting them for dinner and is grateful they are there for dinner, which they are thrilled to hear. Tim and Sally ask Becky about her Thanksgiving surprise, Becky says it's actually an announcement: she wants to invite their guest to take part in the Wishbone wish off competition which the McCallisters gladly accept. Everyone grabs a piece and after breaking it, Tobey won, which he celebrates while Becky congratulates him sadly. Tobey asks his mother if they come back next year for Thanksgiving dinner and Mrs McCallister suggests they have the Botsford's at their house. Tobey happily starts to plan out the next year. He then gives Becky a desert in the shape of a robot which she gladly accepts and the families enjoy the rest of the meal.
