Granny's Book Club is episode 22b of Season 2 of WordGirl.

Summary[]

Granny May tries to capture WordGirl by using a book club bait so she won't have to retire.

Plot[]

The villains have gathered for a meeting at a motel, Granny May tries to get everyone's attention, which leads her to yell at everyone to sit down. As she is about to start, the Butcher shows up with a giant cake revealing it's for her, she is now 75 years old and therefore must retire from being a villain. Granny May becomes offended and traps the Butcher with her needlework impressing everyone, especially Two-Brains. When she asks if anyone else will say something about retiring they don't respond, but Chuck asks to speak and at The Butcher's insistence, she allows it. Chuck tells her that according to Villain rulebook "A villain must retire at 75 years old." Despite being reread by The Butcher, she doesn't believe it so she reads it herself. She soon reads the small writing, "If the retiring villain can capture WordGirl, they don't have to retire unless they want to." Two-Brains and the others are excited to hear that but Chuck points out that not one of them has ever captured WordGirl. Granny May will have to retire but they give her a watch as a present, while unmoved Granny May takes the watch and heads home.

At her lair/home Granny May still thinks of a way to capture WordGirl, after remembering her love a words, she decides to catch WordGirl with her favorite book. Meanwhile WordGirl is relaxing at her hideout while Huggy is cleaning when Granny May calls up and tells WordGirl she is retiring and is no longer a villain even inviting the heroine over for a book club meeting which she is starting. While hesitant, WordGirl accepts and comes over. The two have tea and a bread that Huggy doesn't really like, right as WordGirl is about to leave Granny May said she was going to discuss her favorite Princess Tranah book which WordGirl is interested in. After "forgetting" about an important part in the book, WordGirl gets sprayed by old lady perfume in the section knocking her and Huggy out. Granny ties the two up in yarn and takes them to the association.

Chuck, Dr. Two-Brains, and The Butcher who are waiting at the motel are impressed. Now that Granny May caught WordGirl she no longer has to retire, she gives the three villains a hug who are impressed. Granny May then leaves for some pickpocketing in the park. As she leaves the villains realized that she took Two-Brain's wallet and the watch she was given but took back. The three wonder what to do with WordGirl but she manages to escape them and head to the park to stop Granny May. While knitting, Granny May notices a hot bypassed fanning himself. She drops her yarn, and asks him to pick it up, he obliges but then she steals his wallet. WordGirl arrives seconds later and tells the man what happened and while he doesn't believe it, he sees she does have his wallet, he asks for it back but won't return it. To send her back to the association, Granny May sprays more perfume at her but the man tosses his fan to WordGirl, allowing her to divert the perfume back at Granny May putting her to sleep. Grateful, the man asks how much he owes her, WordGirl is grateful but says that she works for free.

At the jail house, Chuck (who lost the coin toss) tells Granny May that he needs the watch back, which she returns to him. Chuck almost makes a getaway but is caught and during this the watch lands back n Granny May's hand.
