A Vote for Becky is episode 1a of Season 2 of WordGirl.

Summary[]

It's Election Day! Mrs. Botsford is running for D.A., and Becky is running for student council president. Tobey decides to run against Becky and uses his robots to distract WordGirl. How will Becky win the election and save the city from total robot destruction?

Plot[]

The Botsfords are preparing posters, banners and buttons for Sally Botsford's reelection campaign and Becky is excited to be helping her mother. The next day Becky is talking to Scoops about her mom's campaign as Sally is trying to make changes to make the city better. Becky comments that if she was president of her class she would make great changes to the school such as getting rid of the soy nut butter and jelly sandwiches they serve in the cafeteria. Soon an announcement is made by the principal announcing that the elections for class president are starting and anyone can sign up. Scoops tells Becky this is her chance and while hesitant at first, Becky agrees especially after the principal announces that the lunch special is soy nut butter sandwiches.

While signing up Tobey notices her joining the class president run and reveals he is also going out for president as well. Becky asks why he wants to be president as he is more interested in destroying things. Tobey claims he has many improvements he wants to make but comes out with nothing, Becky questions his motives. He states after he gets elected he's going to impress WordGirl with his new position, Becky states that won't work but Tobey claims WordGirl is into guys with power which Becky begs to differ. Tobey just gives Becky his pen and tells her "Vote for Tobey" which she frowns at.

That night, Becky practices her speech for the students with her parents. She says that she hopes to add an art class, make the food in the cafeteria better, put out new benches on the playground, and plant a shade-giving tree at the bus stop. Unfortunately, the pen that Tobey gave Becky was bugged and he writes down what she says. The next day at school Tobey presents all of Becky's ideas as his own. Becky tries to tell everyone that Tobey is not the right president, but when the students ask Becky how she can do better but she comes up empty handed. Despite that, Becky refuses to give up. Over the next few weeks Becky tries to get people's vote but Tobey has thought of something better, eventually she confronts Tobey but he just brushes off her comments.
