<p>I don't see any point in pitting her against other characters until we determine the appropriate math here internally. </p><p>The 'volume of water' approach seems like the best way to determine that meteor's mass, but I'm not really sure how to estimate the width of the spout. Given we do not know the actual distance away (or the size of the squid) we can't exactly come up with an upper limit for it... </p><p>That said, by estimating the size of the buildings in front of the spout, we should be able to come up with a LOWER limit (a minimum strength required). Stories of buildings tend to have an average height so if we used that we could also calculate the width of the buildings and gaps between them, use them as a frame of reference for the spout. </p><p>Unfortunately in this case, it may require a bit of guess work as to the total height (stories) of the building because we do not see them from ground level: there's a bunch of trees in the way obscuring the lower stories, and it's not clear how far back they are. </p><p>Doing this might actually require mapping out Fair City to some degree... would you happen to recall if any episode ever showed a map of the city, or if anyone ever tried to put together a rough map of the city based on relative placement of various locations? </p>

<p>She doesn't exactly "lift" it as stop it from falling further with locked arms. Given the high speed it goes going, the initial deceleration would've been the greatest challenge. Merely holding it up afterwards should be child's play by comparison. </p><p>WG was probably just roleplaying. Given how easily she pressed it up into the air (at that point she is lifting it) and launching it into the water, holding it up shouldn't been no effort at all by comparison. </p><p>Unless of course, WG's abilities are short bursts of mega-strength (stopping the initial meteor fall, launching it later) but she can't do sustained strength for more than a second, explaining why she'd have trouble merely holding it in place. </p><p>In GURPS terms, this might come down to her having a high "Striking ST" but a low "Lifting ST", or possibly that she has Lifting ST which costs FP, so she only activates it when catching/thrownig but turns it off (to recover her Fatigue Points) while holding it in place, so she struggles with her normal (still strong, but not MEGA strong) levels. </p><p>This would also explain why WordGirl would bother lifting lighter weights, or why something lighter than that meteor might cause her a strain in other episodes (conservation of FP) </p><p>We don't know the composition of that meteor though, so it's really hard to estimate what its mass would be. </p><p>What might be a good indication at the end of that clip however is the water it displaces. We DO know the mass of water, so if we can estimate the width (ie diameter of a circle) and height of that water spout, we can calculate the volume and thus the weight of displaced water. </p><p>I'm sure there's some physics formula for how much something needs to weigh to be able to make a splash of a certain size! </p><p>Plus it also displaced what looked to be a giant squid in the water too. </p>

I'd like to give priority to in-universe references but if any of the creators made out-of-universe comparisons that could also be useful. </p><p>The problem with Superman though is he has had dozens of incarnations in different DC incarnations, all with varying power levels, so I wouldn't know which version she's being compared to. </p>

<p>Just got back watching the show, it reached a point where everything airing on PBS/TVO was stuff I had seen so I set it to 'first run only' on PVR and nothing has shown up. Noticed there was a couple I hadn't seen on a curious browse so set it to record though, glad to be back. </p>

<p>If we could ever get out hands on official production notes it'd be great to go with that, but until we get such a resource, I'm probably just going to whatever names we happen to have pictures associating with their appearance. </p><p>In the case of multiple names... whichever causes the fewest conflicts... </p><p>Like if Appearance A is used with both Name 1 and Name 2, but Name 1 is also given to Appearance B, and Name 2 is not given to any other appearance, then I would use Name 2 and save Name 1 for Appearance B, I guess? </p><p>I wouldn't say the BGC are mannequins or devoid of personality... we can construct personalities based on what we see them do, like being in Becky's class, or being invited to her sleepover, or being a member of the WG fan club. </p><p>In the case of ones we don't have names for I'm just going to give generic descriptions based on traits. They could always be renamed later if there's a conflict. Something like green-jacketed man might apply to more than one BG char, in which case, a different descriptor could be chosen. </p><p>I think the most important thing is to just have a page for a person and show how and where they recur throughout the series. </p>

<p>In cases like this, I'm sort of hoping to find the first (blueshirt) reused for an older interviewer so I can give the background char a new name because it's ridiculously similar to the spelling of another one. </p>
